Accessing healthcare is essential when settling in a new city. In Manitoba, residents have access to a publicly funded healthcare system that provides essential medical services at little to no cost. This section will guide you through how to register for healthcare, where to find medical services, and available health support programs.

1. Manitoba Health Coverage

​Who is eligible?

  • Permanent residents, refugees, and certain temporary residents are eligible for Manitoba Health Insurance (MHI).

  • International students and some work permit holders may need private insurance.

How to Apply for a Manitoba Health Card

  • Fill out the Manitoba Health Registration Form – Available online or at a Manitoba Health office.

  • Provide Required Documents – Proof of residency (e.g., lease agreement, utility bill) and immigration status.

  • Receive Your Health Card – Your Manitoba Health Card will be mailed to you. This card allows you to access free medical services.

Pharmacy

  • You can fill prescriptions at pharmacies like Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart Pharmacy, or Rexall.

  • Some medications are covered under Pharmacare for low-income residents.
